Smart City Hostels Edinburgh

Stayed here for a weekend with a stag party of 16 people. The staff were incredibly helpful with all aspects of organising the stag party. They were full of great information about the local area and good recommendations, and very helpful with sorting out room keys etc for 16 drunken men. Also the place was really well set up for stag / hen parties etc, with a great communal bar / restaurant / lounge kind of place. Big enough so that the various large parties did no get on each other's nerves. Also I think it's important to say that Smart City was suitable for more than just hen / stag parties. I'd feel happy staying here with my other half, and I plan to in the near future. It's a great central location, very reasonable prices and clean rooms, and the large groups of people are not over-bearing on the individual and couple travellers. Only two very minor negatives - by some mistake some guy from another stag party ended up crashing out in our room by mistake. The hostel staff were very helpful in sorting this out and even gave us some free drink vouchers which was a nice gesture. And also depending when you turn up, it can be very busy at the front desk, but if I turn up at the same time as 50 other people, what do I expect really?

The hostel was good ,clean but the service was not satisfactory as our main roomlight was not working and i informed them on the first day of living but no action were taken to repair untill the 3rd day when we left.would not prefer this hostel if i have get other option.

I found this hostel very good. People are working in are frendly and the rooms are very clean! Highly recommended!

Put a 50 pound charge on my credit card then e-mailed me an hour later to say that the bed was wet with "something unsanitary". WTF? I slept in pants and they are dry thank you very much. Who charges a credit card without so much as consulting the person involved beforehand? They refused to cancel the charge and I said I would dispute it. No idea what happened. I slept in the bed (dry), left for breakfast, and checked out. Did somebody swap a mattress with me? They did eventually refund me, but it was still a hassle, and only after negative reviews and a chargeback threat. They have trouble answering the phone; their Twitter feed blames BT, but they don't mention any of this on their website. Website says "Bar 50 has free wifi access" but there was a charge when I stayed.

Good value, clean, and even posted items to me I forgot in the fridge
