I first discovered chop chop around 5 years ago after walking past it many times assuming it was just another Chinese restaurant. How wrong I was. The dumplings are great and available in so many varieties. plus the menu has all the standard items you would expect to find in any Chinese restaurant and many of their own takes on things. Signing up to the loyalty program means there are occasional invites to try out new dishes and rate them before they go on the menu as well as receiving vouchers on your birthday.

Chop Chop is a surprise. It's a little garish/tacky on the outside, and yes, the decor is a bit out of date, but no long menus of gloopy takeaway favourites here. The food is interesting, traditional, and fresh. Good options for vegetarians, light and freshly cooked, and as other reviews mention, the dumplings are the star. They also offer some nice discounts, if you sign up to their loyalty card scheme.

Oh gosh chop chop why are you so lovely? I could happily eat here every night alongside Bonsai if my diet allowed it! It's a little on the pricier side than Bonsai but still good value as the food is amazing! The staff are friendly, even if you turn up just as they were about to close doors! They are so accommodating. There's always a reason a restaurant attracts the attention of Gordon Ramsey and with chop chop, you can see why! Delish!

Once highly regarded, Chop Chop has fallen from the once high-standards it set for Asian food within Edinburgh. We ordered the fabled banquet, and that sealed our fate. Service couldn't get any slower, as we were being drip feed food at a snail's pace. For a table of 5, we were given dishes at near 15 min intervals - by an 2 hours into our meal, we had still not received all of our dishes, let alone two dishes simultaneously. So abysmal the food schedule, that I was in-tears-of-laughter when a lone bowl of rice arrived, without any accompaniments. A sheer ignorance of the dishes being serviced by several waiters who didn't know the ingredients of dishes they announced as mere 'dumplings'. Let us not also forget the casual racism which was muttered under a waiter's breath whilst obviously in-ear shot of guests. Several other tables left without paying, which admittedly we were near close to follow. I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant, which I had previously liked, and said outrightly "Never again".

I was really underwhelmed with ChopChop... I got the pork hotpot, which is my favourite, It's usually so rich in taste with plenty of meat. I found it pretty bland, and lacking on the meat side. Also, if those are prize winning dumplings then I must be a genius because they are nothing on my homemade ones... I hope they were just having a bad day... May try again one day.
