My wife and I stayed at this village pub in August 2014, it is promoted as 4**** B&B (self assessed I might add) with en-suite accommodation. We paid £90 and were extremely disappointed to sat the least and would not award any stars whatsoever but to proceed with the posting of this review I had to indicate 1star..... one too many! I read somewhere the pub was refurbished in 2013, if it was it lacks evidence. Shabby entrance and stairway with an unwelcome aroma, one bedroom which appears to have been fitted out by a DIY enthusiast, still unfinished. An eclectic mix of pine and oriental in the room, the wardrobe consists of a rail and hangers and an alcove. The pub has raving reviews about its food, we only had the breakfast and glad to leave never to return.

Thought I should let other people know about this little gem of a pub. My mother-in-law lives in an adjoining village and every time my wife and I go down to see her we always end up for a meal at The Black Dog. We have been for several meals in the evening and for the best Sunday lunch we have ever had. The pub has plenty of character, the staff are really friendly, the proprietor's are great, one of them is 'the chef', I think the beer is first rate, but it's the food that we both particularly enjoy. Sunday lunch is amazing, there is always a choice of joint, beautifully cooked and served with lots of fresh vegetables. There is also pudding and everything is served with a smile. It is great value for money. I/We would definitely recommend to others.

Pleasant country pub offering really good menu at a reasonable price with wide range of choice for vegetarians and vegans. I can recommend the Sunday lunch carvery for good range of roast meats and tasty selection of vegetables. Food is served in the bar or in the restaurant and tables are well laid with clean linen etc.
